Memento

Memento is directed by Christopher Nolan and release on 5 September 2000. This movie is about a man Leonard finding the murderer who killed his wife.

Synopsis 

Leonard was finding some clue to find out who is the murderer John.G that raped and killed his wife. He get injured when he fighting with the murderer so he cannot have new memories. He will be forgotten new memories after few minutes. He uses instant film to capture all the clues that he found. He also tattoo the clues on his own body so it will help him to remember. His friends Teddy and Natalie use his short memories to drug trafficking. After Leonard discover, Teddy tell Leonard all the truth. Leonard already killed John.G but after that Leonard cannot remember. His memories always stopped at the moment his wife was died when raped by John.G. Leonard do not want to believe what Teddy said to him because that is the only reason can make Leonard to live. 

5 scene I like

At the beginning of the movie, the movie is playing rewind. A clear photo turning into blur and come out from the instant film camera. This is the hint to tell the audiences the movie is playing backtrack. After that this movie from colour turn to back and white. Leonard is talking with himself who he is, where is this , the key that put beside him is like he first meet the key. He do not remember any single thing. I believe many people watch until here will feel like do not know what is going on. It make us feel exactly same as the main character Leonard, he also wonder what happening. I love this scene because it will bring out my curiosity and continue watching it and find out the truth.

Secondly, I love the black and white scene Leonard meet his colleague Sammy and found out that Sammy suffering from antegrade amnesia. Sammy’s wife can not accept his husband get this disease. She wanted to know the truth so she test him. Sammy's wife have diabetes and Sammy also know it. Every time he will help his wife do injection. Sammy's wife use her own body to try out his husband can remember or not.Sammy's wife ask for the injection for the first time second and third. Sammy can not remember he already inject the insulin to his wife. Until the third time Sammy's wife ask for the injection, she still hold the hope that her husband can be remember. Unfortunately, Sammy's wife unconscious because of the overdose insulin inject into her body. The reason I like this scene is because Sammy is actually Leonard and Sammy'wife is Leonard’s wife. This all is all Leonard imagination because of his short term memory and he do not want to accept the truth. There was also one hint to use to know Sammy is Leonard himself when Sammy suddenly change to Leonard sitting there.

Thirdly, the scene Leonard was chasing by a man. But he soon found out that the man was chasing him. Then, Leonard quickly run away from the man who chasing him. This scene is quiet funny for me. When I was very concentrate when watching this movie and this scene make audiences feel relief. In a movie I feel that some funny scene is essential because it will help to reduce the sense of oppression. If not the whole movie will be too boring.

Fourth, I like this ending scene Teddy and Leonard have some argue when Leonard know Teddy just using him for the drug dealing. The reason I like this scene is because I have a lot of doubt when watching this movie. I can get all the idea clear through the conversation between Teddy and Leonard. When the audiences watching until here they will feel like everything has become reasonable.

Lastly, I also like the scene when Leonard realize all the truth such as he already killed the real John.G.  Leonard do not believe what Teddy told him even he know all Teddy say is truth and he just trying to escape all the truth. The reason I like this scene is because this is only way that can help Leonard to live. He killed Teddy and make Teddy as one of the John.G. After he killed Teddy, he started to find the new target next John.G. The story has been circulating and no ending.

Editing

The editing play a very important role in this movie. The story of this movie is nonlinear narrative movie. The beginning of the movie is the end of the story. The end of the story is the beginning of the movie. This movie editing is special and unique. There are black and white and colour scene in the movie. Black and white is represent forward and colour is represent the backward. Some people might not understand the movie but for me it is very interesting. As we know that movie are usually linear from the beginning until the end so this movie Momento is actually very special because of the editing. In my opinion, this kind of editing is not suitable for every movie and this editing is very suitable for Momento because the movie is about Leonard finding the murderer who killed his wife. This editing effect will make us feel like the same feeling as Leonard because at the beginning we did not know what was happening. This feeling is same as Leonard also because his short term memory. Besides, I like this movie editing because it will make us want to keep watching and to know what happen in this movie.
